Threatened species - Short beaked dolphin
The list of threatened species released by the World conservation Union (IUCN), is an indicator of the state of health for plants and animals. The red list contained more than 10,000 species
Human activities has been the major cause of species extinction. Rather than preserving the delicate balance of nature, humans continue to compromise it, Saidly many species are thus lost and along with them natural resources that may have proved invaluable
One of the animals on the red list was the short-beaked dolphin, its numbers in the Mediterranean by more than 60 percent over the last 30 to 47 years, and it is now considered endangered. According to the IUCN, contributory factors have been "a reduction in the availability of dolphin prey in the Mediterranean through a combination of environmental changes, overfishing, and habitat degradation". It is also thought that man-made chemicals found in the sea "may cause suppression and reproductive impairment".
